Make That Two: Hector Moreno Injures Another Player

Welp…Make that two and a pretty disastrous week for Mexican international and PSV defender Hector Moreno. After scoring and seriously injuring Luke Shaw in PSV’s Champions League opener, Moreno decided to visit the Manchester United man in the hospital this past Thursday, a visit which apparently left him in tears. Moreno is the kind of guy we love to love and love to cheer for. He’s suffered long-term injuries and setbacks, so he of all people knows the devastation that can come from dangerous tackles and studs-up offenses.

But, in an unfortunate series of events, Moreno committed another terrible foul in PSV’s domestic league matchup against Heracles Almelo.

In the 72nd minute of PSV’s 2-1 loss, a bad first touch led to a late studs-up tackle against winger Oussama Tannane. If you feel so inclined to watch the dangerous challenge, here’s a video:

We thought that the tackle on Shaw was an anomaly, but twice in one week? Hector Moreno is no Diego Costa – not even close – so we’re perplexed and confused as to how he’s managed to leave two players on the ground. At age 27 and with his numerous appearances for club and country, it can’t be for lack of experience, nor do we feel that it has anything to do with a particularly vicious style of play. Is it merely a lack of match fitness and finesse that’s leading to tackles of this nature?
