Disney is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a new campaign bringing together top creators from around the world, including some familiar names from our communities, like Mexican gymnast Alexa Moreno. Disney’s Create 100 invites creators and innovators to create a one-of-a-kind piece or experience that is set to be auctioned for Make-A-Wish beginning October 12.

“Disney’s timeless stories and characters have made an indelible mark on pop culture around the globe, transcending borders, industries and generations,” said Consumer Products, Games and Publishing President Tasia Filippatos. “We couldn’t think of a better way to honor 100 years of Disney storytelling than by collaborating with this outstanding collective of visionaries in support of Make-A-Wish.”

“My connection with Disney is quite significant,” Moreno said in Spanish in a special video from Disney Style where she breaks down how she’s joining in on the Disney 100th anniversary celebration. “The characters that inspired me were from Disney. One of them is Mulan.”

She added that, as she was designing the piece she looked for “elements of the movie,” because Mulan is not only a character she loves, but her personality and her strength is “something that inspires her,” as she’s practicing gymnastics. “We grow up with those stories and in the end, we hold onto those values and ideals.”

Moreno is set to participate with a gymnastics leotard inspired by Disney’s Mulan.

She’ll be joined by other Latines like fellow Mexican gymnast Mario Rojas, who is also set to participate with a gymnastics leotard, this one inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Mike Wazowski, Peruvian designer Jessica Butrich, who has created a maxi heart bag inspired by the Cheshire Cat, and Colombian singer Carlos Vives, who alongside Venezuelan singer Gusi created a personalized jacket inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Peter Pan “Un Niño en la Tierra del Olvido.”

Colombian singer Sebastián Yatra alongside Mexican painter Roberta Lobeira, Mexican designer Genoveva Pedrero, Cuban artist Gabriela Noelle, and Brazilian Designer Marco Ribeiro will also contribute pieces to the campaign.
