Welcome to Tijuana: Former El Tri Boss Piojo Herrera to Take Over Xolos

Miguel “El Piojo” Herrera is back, and he’ll be taking over as Xolos head coach for a two-year deal, according to the Tijuana club.

Herrera had been off the pitch following his dismissal by FEMEXFUT, which came after he punched popular TV Azteca commentator Christian Martinoli at the Philadelphia airport the day after El Tri won the Gold Cup in July.

Rumors linked El Piojo to the managerial position at different teams, including the MLS’ Chicago Fire and Liga MX’s Cruz Azul, but it was Xolos that moved quickly for the 47-year-old and announced the deal via Twitter.

Herrera will have to wait until the end of the current Apertura to take charge of the team in official matches, in line with Liga MX rules.
