Pumas Crush América in 3-0 Victory, Fans Bask in the Glory on Twitter

Estadio Azteca was lit last night, literally set ablaze by an endless stream of yellow cards and a smash-and-grab Pumas’ offense that scored three away goals.

With Club América down a man after Pablo Aguilar’s second card in the 52nd, Ismael Sosa got the scoring underway with a soul-crushing conversion in the 62nd. 1-0.

Miguel Samudio was next to get the ax two minutes later – leaving us with a classic end-to-end 9 vs. 11 showdown. Unfortunately (and perhaps understandably), América couldn’t handle the heat, and Gerardo Alcoba finished a speed-of-light counter from the ever-active Sosa and cross from Fidel Martínez to set the score at 2-0.

Eduardo Herrera then proceeded to crush what little was left of the Águilas’ hopes and dreams in the 78th, when he redirected a free kick into the opposite corner of the net with one of the most gorgeous cabezazos I’ve seen in quite some time.

Pumas fans were (and still inevitably are) basking and dancing in their glory.

Poor Pablo Aguilar was quick to apologize for his actions after the match…

…But fans showed no mercy.

Some suggested that Oribe needed a couple more 5-hour energy drinks.

While others attempted to reconcile (or maybe just squeeze in a few more laughs) by focusing on América’s impending trip to Japan for the FIFA Club World Cup.

Even though their tifo game was off…

They received help from friends and enemies alike. Book your flights now, eagles!

If you need an extra day or night to sulk and/or reflect on your more-than-likely Liguilla exit, we’re here for you.

Otherwise, let’s see what the second leg has in store for us on Sunday! La gran remontada, perhaps?
