Atlanta Braves player Ronald Acuña has just been confirmed to be participating in the 2025 Home Run Derby, the home run hitting competition that typically takes place before the All-Star Game.
The Derby will take place during the All-Star Weekend festivities at Truist Park in Atlanta, specifically on Monday, July 14. It’s set to be broadcast on ESPN.
That means Acuña will be participating in the Derby in front of his home crowd. Seven other hitters will also participate in the Derby, but they’ve yet to be announced.
The teams for the All-Star game have not been set, but fans can vote for the 2025 MLB All-Star roster is now open through June 26, 2025. Voting can be done up to five times per day, on each device, and it’s open here.

Acuña has been considered one of the game’s best players ever since his first year, when he won Rookie of the Year. Since then, he’s earned four All-Star selections, three Silver Slugger Awards, and twice led the league in stolen bases.
In 2023, Acuña made history by becoming only the fifth player in MLB history to join the prestigious 40-40 club—hitting at least 40 home runs and stealing 40 bases in a single season. That year, Acuña also won the NL MVP Award.
One year removed from an injury that kept him out most of the 2024 season, Acuña has returned with a bang. Since his return on May 23, he has appeared in 29 games, posting a .383 batting average, 9 home runs, 18 RBIs, and 41 hits in total. Not just that, on June 24, Acuña stole his 200th career stolen base, becoming the first player in Atlanta-era Braves history to reach that mark.
