Sergio “Checo” Pérez is staying at Red Bull. The Mexican driver has renewed his contract with the team and is now confirmed to stay with Red Bull until the end of the 2026 season. His current contract was set to expire at the end of the 2024 season.

News of the contract extension comes at a very complicated time in the F1 driver market, with a lot of drivers changing teams and a great majority of the teams yet to confirm who will race for them next season. For Red Bull and Pérez, however, there is no doubt. The partnership works, and they want it to continue.

The extension means Pérez will go into his fifth and sixth season with Red Bull. He joined the team in 2021.

“I am really happy to commit my future to this great team. It is a challenge like no other racing for Oracle Red Bull Racing, both on track and off track.” Pérez said about the extension. “I am delighted to be staying here to continue our journey together and contribute to this team’s great history for two more years. Being part of the team is an immense challenge, and one I love.”

Pérez is fifth in the F1 standings right now.

The reaction was overwhelmingly positive, with some people even saying that Mexico was “divided as a country after the elections, but Checo Pérez returned to unite us.”

And as is always the case on the internet, there was dancing.

There were fanvids.

And fanart.

There will be much more of that, as Sergio Pérez will be staying at Red Bull. And if it were up to him, he’d stay with Red Bull until his final lap.

Checo is set to race next at the Canadian Grand Prix starting with his first practice tomorrow, June 7th. The race is set for Sunday, June 9th. The full schedule can be found on the F1 official website here. And you can watch on ESPN and ESPN Deportes if you’re in the USA and Fox Sports Mexico if you’re in Mexico.
