Barcelona FC captain Xavi Hernández has confirmed our suspicions that he will join Qatari side Al-Sadd this summer.

The most iconic player of the “Bajitos” generation is ending his 24-year run with the Blaugrana team. “I have an exciting project in Qatar playing soccer for Al-Sadd,” the 35-year-old announced in press conference. “I’ve signed a contract for the next two seasons with an option for a third.”

Xavi is one of the most decorated Barca players. He won a World Cup and European Cup twice with Spain. After 17 seasons, he has made over 500 appearances for Blaugrana, winning 23 trophies, including three Champions League titles and eight La Liga titles.

Xavi will play his last games with Los Blaugranas when they host Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey final on May 30th, before facing Juventus in the UEFA Champions League final on June 6th in Berlin.
