On the day that Dascha Polanco turned 33 (today), she appeared in a New York court for punching a 17-year-old in the face. Back in July, she allegedly hit Michelle Cardona in “the face and head with a closed fist at least three times” in Washington Heights. She also pulled her hair, and at the time, did not serve jail time but was ordered to appear before a judge, according to court papers obtained by The New York Daily News.

Today, she was arraigned on assault, attempted assault and harassment charges. She was released without bail, and told not to mess with Cardona again.

The Mirror reports that Cardona invited Polanco to her apartment before the incident, and Cardona supposedly had “bruising and redness to her face, scratches to her arms, and substantial pain.” Polanco’s lawyer, Gerald Lefcourt, is confident that the charges will be dropped. “It’s a set up to try to get money and it was tape recorded,” he said. “This young woman was trying to extort her to drop the case. We’re confident the charges will be dismissed.”

Polanco will be back in court in January 2016 to answer to the charges, so we’ll let you know how this one plays out.
