Mexican icon Juan Gabriel is getting his own Funko POP! – and the toy version of Gabriel will wear one of the singer’s most iconic mariachi looks. The Funko POP! features Gabriel in a black suit and mariachi hat adorned with colorful flowers, complete with a yellow shirt, green tie, and microphone in hand. And it’ll be available to buy on August 5th, 2024 with pre-orders on Amazon. It’s currently priced at $12.99.
Better known as Juanga or El Divo de Juárez, Juan Gabriel is widely regarded as one of the best Mexican singers and composers of all time, with songs like “Hasta que te conocí”, “Se me olvidó otra vez,” “Abrázame muy fuerte” and “Amor eterno.” He is also known for his flamboyant style, which pushed back against stereotypes within our community at a time when being anything but the stereotypical serious singer was seen as a surefire way of driving fans away.
Juan Gabriel’s outfit in the Funko POP! is one he has worn before, but fans were quick to point out the missed opportunity to replicate perhaps the star’s most famous outfit, from his performance at el Palacio de Bellas Artes, a black mariachi suit with gold detailing.
For some, however, Juan Gabriel has “so many iconic looks, they should do a collection.”
Funko POP! will also add other musicians to their collection, including Shakira, Carlos Santana, and Michael Jackson. Other Latino musicians to get the Funko POP! treatment include J Balvin and Selena. Guillermo del Toro and former NBA star Carmelo Anthony also have their own Funkos.
