Hoping to get over her recent breakup, or to – at least – feel less terrible, Andie Gomez, a young Latina trying to figure herself out, moves to Austin, Texas only to discover that the gentrified hipster paradise is also a mess. That’s the premise of writer-director Andie Flores’ upcoming web series, Muy Excited, in which she also stars as the listless lead character. She goes from Flores to Gomez, but remains Andie.
In Muy Excited, the hilarious mishaps Andie gets into with her friends, played by actors Nickclette Izuegbu, Jesus Valles, and comedian Devon Walker, also serve to question relevant concerns about the place of people of color in an increasingly white town. The series also showcases performer Vanessa Gonzalez’s voice, as Andie’s cousin who works as a news anchor.
Battling condescending white ladies and plenty of awkward situations, Andie and her friends find the humor in every precarious occurrence and unexpected encounter. We have the very first sneak peek in an exclusive trailer that highlights the panorama of faces that populate the show and features music from Orión García of Discos Peligrosa. The creator has promised that future episodes will include unpleasant dates, family drama, queer characters, a Selena movie-worthy baptism, and even a talking Paquita la del Barrio poster. Crowdfunded through IndieGogo, Muy Excited is another great example of Latinx content created on a budget where the production value is solid and its story shines. Creator Andie Flores hopes that this project, “Gains visibility to impact the playing field for Latinx creators and the generations to follow.” The entire show will be comprised of eight episodes with a running time somewhere between five and seven minutes each.
