It’s no surprise that we’re a spiritual bunch. Walter Mercado has, after all, served as our spiritual advisor for decades. After a particularly rough 2017, it’s also not astonishing that many of us want a sign that 2018 will treat us better. So as we head into the new year, we’re looking at what Latin America’s spiritual guides predict 2018 will have in store for us.

From the environment to the political arena, many of them acknowledge the hurdles we collectively face. According to their predictions, it will be a kind of dark year, with a few silver linings. Here’s what the new year could bring:

Brujo Mayor

El Brujo Mayor was light on predictions, but he did say every country would see great change.

Mhoni Vidente

Mhoni Vidente wants us to brace ourselves for a dark 2018. She says the entire world will experience a difficult year, with natural disasters playing a big role. She also predicts young people will play a crucial role in the election of leaders this year.

Walter Mercado

Walter Mercado calls 2018 “el año del poder Latino.” He predicts that Latino artists will continue to have a standout year globally. Miami, while it will continue to serve as a hub for Latino artists, will be in the news because of environmental issues. And just like 2017, we’ll unfortunately see more threats due to hurricanes, earthquakes, and flooding.

Reinaldo dos Santos

On Día D, Reinado dos Santos was asked to look into the future for the world. The Brazilian fortune teller saw Brazil taking home the trophy. Though he believes there are many different combinations for the final game, he doesn’t believe that fate will pair Argentina and Brazil in the finals.

He also sees 2018 as a year of protest in the United, particularly in regards to immigration. He foresees two big protests, one in response to the actions of President Donald Trump.

Santero Babalawos

Members of the Consejo Cubano de Sacerdotes Mayores de Ifá say the best way to avoid bad fortune in 2018 is to not pressure yourself to find success, to avoid being aggressive in your quest to obtain things, and to not spend too much time away from water to avoid bad energy. They also advise to stay away from dressing in red or black to avoid failure. Read more here.
