Back in 2005, Argentinian band Bicicletas (now somewhat legends in their own right) released an EP of covers titled Discover, featuring renditions of The Rolling Stones’ “2000 Light Years from Home,” Duran Duran’s “Planet Earth,” The Doors’ “Strange Days,” and three other anglo staples. A couple of days ago they posted them up on SoundCloud as FREE downloads. So now we get to revisit their timeless, dirty reworkings. Singer Julio César Crivelli’s voice sounds as scuzzy as ever and his accent enhances many of the English-language songs, giving them a kitschy quality. It’s a treat to hear Bicicletas chant a now-iconic line such as “How does it feel like…” and to channel the early 2000s with “Rippin Kittin.” We’re also happy they decided to cover, of all Duran Duran songs, “Planet Earth,” by far one of their best. But of course we have a soft spot for their Cure cover, “Lovesong.” Unlike, let’s say, 311’s “Lovesong” cover, this cover doesn’t make our ears bleed buckets.

Covers run the risk of sounding like bad karaoke, but I’d pay good money to see Bicicletas at an Asian establishment. Download Discover, the six-track set below for some throwback jams, Bicicletas style.
