Your Mix Fix: Wagoner

The word mixtape has plenty of different interpretations. It used to be that mixtapes were actually DJ sets recorded on cassette tapes, but with the coming of the digital music age, the name remained the same, but the definition expanded. Nowadays, people call mixtapes many different things, some of which are not necessarily mixed and most of which were never taped. Here we try to cover them all. In this column, Juan Data gives you a worthy one every week.

DJ: Wagoner
MIXTAPE: Monster Mixtape

Mexico City’s Wagoner knows how to hit really hard. You can either love it and join in on the mosh pit or it can annoy you and hurt your eardrums. But you can’t just ignore it and let it play as background music. These guys play electro-tech as if they were a thrash metal power trio, so listening to a Wagoner mixtape is an experience closer to attending a Pantera concert than a rave headlined by David Guetta.

Wagoner recently released their third EP, Binaural Brainwave Modification, Pt. 2, and to celebrate they put together this hour-long juggernaut set that includes most of their original compositions and remixes, plus, yeah, a Pantera interpolation.
