G.O.O.D Music fans will remember Cruel Summer mostly for legendary bangers “Mercy” and “Clique,” and the omnipresence of swerve memes during the summer of 2012. One track off the album that got far less love was “Higher,” a dark song carried largely by the sweet melodies of love king Terius Nash (The-Dream) and Mase’s nostalgic bumbling. Fresh off their performance at SONAR Festival, Barcelona-based duo ¥€$O embrace the Radio Killa’s vocals on their rework of “Higher,” but they pick up the pace, infusing the track with pulsating juke beats and trappy snare rolls. ¥€$O were featured on BSN Posse’s compilation album Iberian Juke, Vol. 1 back in February, and here they offer further evidence of Chicago juke’s creative reach and emergence onto the global scene. Check out our coverage of their SONAR EP here.
