The cast for RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars has finally been revealed and for the first time, there might be a good chance that a Latina drag queen could be inducted into the Drag Race Hall of Fame; which includes winners like Trixie Mattel, Shea Couleé, and Kylie Sonique Love.
For season eight, the five Latina drag queens who are getting another chance to snatch the crown are Kandy Muse, Jessica Wild, Jaymes Mansfield, Monica Beverly Hillz, and Naysha Lopez.
The cast this season appears to be a mix of fan-favorites and drag queens who were eliminated early on this original season.
Kandy Muse finished as runner-up in the thirteenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. In the final lip sync against Symone, she pulled out a flag of the Dominican Republic to proudly represent her roots. In the cast reveal video, Muse said, “I’m big, I’m brown, I’m loud.”
Monica Beverly Hillz made history on RuPaul’s Drag Race during her run on season five. She became the first drag queen to come out as trans during the competition. “I’m not just a drag queen,” Hillz told RuPaul. “I’m a transgender woman.” After finishing in twelfth place, the Puerto Rican drag queen went on to become an advocate for the trans community.
Jessica Wild was a fan-favorite back on season two of RuPaul’s Drag Race. She proudly represented Puerto Rico during her run on the show where she finished in seventh place. Wild is the most veteran competitor among the cast this season. “I deserve to be in the Drag Race Hall of Fame because I’m always representing the art of drag with dignity and it’s time to have a Latina,” Wild said in the reveal video.
Like Sasha Colby, who won RuPaul’s Drag Race earlier this month, Naysha Lopez was also a Miss Continental title holder. The Puerto Rican queen competed on season eight of RuPaul’s Drag Race. She was the first contestant to be eliminated. Lopez was brought back by RuPaul a second time where she ended up finishing in ninth place.
Jaymes Mansfield was the first person to be sent home on season nine. The Mexican-American drag queen has since launched a popular wig line with Jaymes Mansfield Beauty. “I worked my ass off these past couple of years,” they said in the Meet the Queen video, “The way I’ve evolved since season 9, I don’t even recognize that girl.”
Other drag queens who are competing on All Stars, include Canada’s Drag Race favorite Jimbo, Alexis Michelle, and Darienne Lake. Heidi N Closet, Kahanna Montrese, Mrs. Kasha Davis, and LaLa Ri round out the cast. Season eight will start streaming on Paramount+ on May 12.
