The day that fans have been waiting with bated breath for has finally arrived! According to a tweet posted on the official Twitter for the Netflix Cuban-American family comedy One Day at a Time has confirmed the series has been picked up for a third season. This comes a week after the National Hispanic Media Coalition, UnidosUS, Voto Latino and NALIP penned an open letter to Netflix urging them to save the series.
The third season, presumably set for release sometime next year, will be 13 episodes though nothing more than that is currently known. The series, a reboot of the ’70s sitcom of the same name, follows a military veteran, played by Justina Machado, her children, and her mother (played by living legend Rita Moreno) as they navigate life, love, and issues affecting Latinos in America today. The series has a devout following on social media, with many holding streaming parties to up the ratings and compel Netflix to save it.
One Day at a Time is one of the more well-known Netflix series that isn’t Stranger Things. It’s actually hard to find people who dislike the series with its fun tone and compelling characters. It took far too long for Netflix to announce the third season, but the fan response definitely urged them in the right direction. It’ll be hard to wait for the return of the Alvarez family, but the wait is worth it!
