TelevisaUnivision recently announced a new Selena Quintanilla project during its Upfront presentation in New York City (May 17). The world’s leading Spanish-language media company is focused on expanding its audiences and reaching out to more Latines born in the United States.

One of the ways they hope to achieve this is by releasing Por Siempre Selena (Selena Forever), a two-hour special honoring the music of the late Selena Quintanilla. According to a press release from TelevisaUnivision, Por Siempre Selena will celebrate the “legacy and popularity of the iconic Tejano star…who captured the hearts of many worldwide.”

The special will include “musical moments and stories of her life” told from the perspective of the people who knew her best and by those individuals who she inspired. “Her music transcended language, culture, and borders, while she remained true to herself,” the release continued.

“No other network – in English or Spanish – can match our connection, resonance and trust that we have with our audience,” said Luis Silberwasser, President of Univision Television Networks. “We are the fastest growing portfolio of TV networks in media with the perfect mix of captivating stories and events that create big cultural moments and are watched live.”

Twenty-seven years after her untimely death, Selena continues to impact Latine culture worldwide. This year, the 1997 biopic starring Jennifer Lopez celebrated its 25th anniversary with a re-release at movie theaters. The Quintanilla family also announced a new posthumous Selena album powered by artificial intelligence.
