In the Season 4 finale of Stranger Things, Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) gets to play an epic electric guitar solo to help in the plan to destroy the malevolent being known as Vecna. His song of choice: Metallica’s 1986 song “Master of Puppets.”
Performing the song for the character was Tye Trujillo, the 17-year-old son of Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, who was credited for providing “additional guitar tracks” on the episode. The proud papa posted a short video of the credits at the end of the season finale where his son’s name is listed.
“That’s my boy!” Robert Trujillo wrote on social media. “Proud of ya Tye! Stranger Things finale shredding it on ‘Master of Puppets.’”
In an official post by Metallica, which includes the “Master of Puppets” scene, the band said they were honored when they learned that Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer wanted to include one of their songs in the popular Netflix series.
“The way The Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into Stranger Things has always been next level, so we were beyond psyched for them to not only include ‘Master of Puppets’ in the show, but to have such a pivotal scene built around it,” Metallica posted. “We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did, we were totally blown away.”
The Stranger Things soundtrack has been receiving a lot of attention from fans this season. Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” and Kate Bush’s 1985 track “Running Up That Hill,” which is also featured on the TV series, are both listed in the Top 100 Global songs at the Apple store.
