Fans of the Netflix series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega started snapping their fingers happily Friday morning (January 6). The streamer announced the popular series has been greenlit for a second season.

In an exclusive interview with Tudum.com Creators/Showrunners/Executive Producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar said, “It’s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world. Thrilled to continue Wednesday’s tortuous journey into season two. We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”

On Thursday evening (January 5), Netflix released a cryptic tweet featuring a scene from Wednesday with Ortega’s title character typing the question “The End?” on her typewriter.

The tweet, of course, turned out to be a red herring with the announcement Friday. Was there really any doubt that the record-breaking series would be renewed? Wednesday became the second most-watched English-language series in Netflix history last month, but even those who haven’t seen the series are likely to have seen a particular dance scene that everyone has been raving about.

Last month, Remezcla named Ortega’s Wednesday as one of the 10 Best Standout Characters of 2022. “To anyone who doubted that the character of Wednesday Addams couldn’t be played effectively by anyone other than Christina Ricci from the films of the 1990s, you were sorely mistaken,” Remezcla wrote. “Jenna Ortega was an example this year of perfect casting.”

While there have been recent rumors that Wednesday might be forced to leave Netflix if it was picked up for a second season, those rumors are untrue. Wednesday is staying where it is, and with a second season, we’ll be tuning in once again for some kooky fun.
