It seems Cardi B is taking a break from the platform that catapulted her to mainstream fame. The Invasion of Privacy star has deactivated her account following a public dispute with fellow New York rapper Azealia Banks. On Friday, Banks appeared on the staple radio show The Breakfast Club to discuss her new music, her support for Donald Trump, and Cardi B’s breakout success. In a conversation with hosts Charlamagne the God and DJ Envy, the Harlem-born rapper discussed Cardi’s position as a woman in hip-hop, dubbing her an “illiterate, untalented rat” and “a caricature of a black woman.”
“I’m just talking about this caricature of a black woman that black women themselves would never be able to get away with,” she said on the show. “Like, if my spelling and grammar was that bad, I’d be canceled. If Nicki Minaj spelled like that, we would be ragging on her all day.”
On Saturday, Cardi B posted several tweets in response. Banks mocked Cardi on Twitter, referring to her as “Yara from ESL room 205.” The “Bodak Yellow” rapper also shared a lengthy message on her Instagram account directed at Banks. “You think your advocating for women and your doing the opposite!” she wrote.

Azealia Banks has long been vocal about her criticism of Cardi B; after “Bodak Yellow” soared to the top of the charts at the end of September, Banks claimed she “wanted spicy Latina” Cardi B, not “poor man’s Nicki” in an interview with XXL. In the same XXL interview, she showed love for Cardi and explained how much she identified with the former reality TV star, who reminds her of “all the girls I grew up on the block with, all the Dominican babysitters.” (In the past, Banks has openly discussed her close connection to Dominican culture on Instagram). After the interview aired on Friday, many fans took to social media to express their disappointment in Banks’ elitist and xenophobic statements.
