It’s the Dominican Republic’s independence month and New York is about to get pilas of DR pride. Dominican clothing brand Tingola are landing in Nueva Yol, and have prepared a weekend of art and music, collaborating with illustrator Angurria and doodler/DJ extraordinaire Poteleche.

Poteleche (aka Rafael De Los Santos) has made a name for himself in the D.R.’s visual arts and music scene. He’ll be playing his fine selection of tunes as well as selling art alongside Angurria at a roving pop-up shop that will be set up for the two days – complete with food, drinks, raffles and art.

For the occasion, Poteleche has kindly made a mixtape for us titled Arroz Con Mango, that incorporates folky sounds, old school hip-hop, current pop and classic salsa rhythms for a very eclectic mixture of styles and beats.

Our own Joel Moya explained arroz con mango to me like this: “It’s like when you get home drunk and you open your fridge, you get some bread, jelly, lettuce and whatever you can find and make yourself a sandwich.” I think that pretty much sums up this excellent mixtape.

If you’re in NYC, check out info below on the pop-up shop.
