Following the mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub – which served as a sanctuary for the queer Latinx community living in and around Orlando – the outpouring of support has come in towering waves. Orlando citizens have lined up for blocks to donate blood. Around $2 million has been raised for the families of the victims. And communities all over have organized numerous vigils to show solidarity for those affected.
It’s a true testament to the power of people, and it sends one loud, clear message: Love always wins. Together, they are standing up to homophobia. Those who have been touched by violence are reaching out, despite their own pain. And through loving gestures, they are showing what Islam is all about. Here’s how the world paid tribute:
