In mid-September, the world learned that Francia Raísa is a hero and the best friend in the world. Selena Gomez revealed in an Instagram post that she underwent a life-saving kidney transplant because her BFF altruistically donated an organ. More than a month later, Gomez, who revealed her lupus diagnosis in 2015, has opened up about the procedure and about Raísa’s noble actions.

In an interview with The Today Show‘s Savannah Guthrie, scheduled to air next week, Gomez tearfully talks about learning her kidneys had failed her. “My kidneys were just done. That was it,” she said. “I didn’t want to ask a single person in my life, and that was the day I came home when I found out and she volunteered and did it.” When Guthrie asked Gomez why she felt Francia saved her life, Gomez simply said, “Because she did. That’s it.”
