Catalan singer Rosalía may be a newcomer in the Spanish-language music industry, but she’s quickly established herself as a favorite among the business’s top reggaetoneros and pop stars. The young singer’s hushed vocals and promise to “revolutionize flamenco” landed her a feature on J Balvin’s Vibras, an irresistible, winding floater of a track and an effortless standout from the follow-up to Energía.

Now the flamenco experimentalist is expanding her repertoire by venturing into film. On July 21, she revealed that she scored a role in the upcoming Pedro Almodóvar film Dolor y Gloria alongside Penélope Cruz. The Catalan singer shared the news via Instagram, writing, “Today was a beautiful day…I filmed my first movie scene…As a kid, I’d watch Pedro’s movies with my mother and my sister and the women who starred in them seemed to be from another world, yet they were so familiar at the same time. My life has always been about singing, playing music, dancing, and acting and I will say that I really dreamed of doing something like this since I was a young girl. Today I was filming for the new Almodóvar movie that will come out next year.” According to previous reports, the film will continue shooting this summer.

The role should come as no surprise, as the Catalan artist has an affinity for the cinematic; she worked with esteemed production house CANADA on “Malamente” and “Pienso en Tu Mirá,” two stunning music videos for the singles from her upcoming album El mal querer. With its surreal cultural references and meticulous composition, both clips point to the artist’s appreciation for powerful visuals.
