What’s the role of a celebrity in times of crisis? That’s a fair question given how the popularity (and wealth) of any given star can help sway public opinion. Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and Idris Elba admitting they contracted the Coronavirus no doubt made our current health crisis all the more real for many around the world. And so while Cardi B may be wondering if all these celebs are getting paid and Bad Bunny is finding ever more joyful ways of keeping us entertained, other actors and musicians are trying out different forms of online activism. You can’t log onto Instagram without seeing a slew of new #IStayAtHome posts by the likes of Eva Longoria reminding everyone to practice self-isolation, for instance. While here at Remezcla we’ve started our own Self Care series as a way to see the likes of Dascha Polanco and Tanya Saracho are coping with self-isolation.

And then there are those like Jaime Camil who are using their celebrity for charitable purposes. Best known as the affable and all too vain Rogelio de la Vega on Jane the Virgin, Camil has recently joined Cameo and is promising all of his proceeds will go to fighting COVID-19. In case you’re not familiar, Cameo is a service where you can pay a celeb to record a personalized video message just for you. Think of it as a kind of digital autograph for the 21st century — one you can get from the comfort of your own home while you continue to practice self-distancing!

So if you’ve ever wanted to get a Rogelio-esque message sent your way now’s your chance. It’s a great way to donate to charity, help Camil pass his self-isolation time and, bonus for us, get to reconnect with arguably the scene-stealing star of Jane the Virgin.

Request your very own Rogelio video message at Jaime Camil’s Cameo.
