Just when you thought you couldn’t get enough baby Yoda, we get more! Disney+ has debuted the trailer and artwork for its upcoming documentary series, Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian, which premieres on May 4. That’s right, to celebrate “May the Fourth,” a date that’s become synonymous with Star Wars celebrations around the world, Disney+ will be premiering a new show all about the making of arguably the runaway hit from last year.
The two-minute trailer itself features never-before-seen footage of the first season of The Mandalorian interwoven throughout roundtable discussions between cast and crew, including the show’s star, Pedro Pascal (who plays the titular helmet wearing character). Each chapter of the eight-episode docuseries, hosted by executive producer Jon Favreau, “explores a different facet of the first live-action Star Wars television show.”
Through the trailer, we get a preview of how the storyline behind The Child (also known as baby Yoda) came to life on set. Director Deborah Chow shared how actor Werner Herzog (who plays The Client) “was acting against the baby. He started directing the baby directly. I was trying to direct Werner, who is now directing the puppet. He was telling us we needed to commit to the magic. ‘Make them use the puppet.’” It’s a reminder of how lifelike the practical special effects were in Disney+’s hit show — and how much focus “baby Yoda” pulled from its fellow co-stars.
While we wait for season two of The Mandalorian (which will feature none other than Rosario Dawson as fan-favorite Ahsoka Tano), this behind the scenes documentary series is as perfect a chance to dive right into the Star Wars universe. Take a look at the full trailer below.
