Actress and former Fox News contributor Stacey Dash is trying to walk back years of offensive comments and strong support for former president Donald Trump, but critics aren’t buying it for a second.
Dash, who is half Mexican, told the Daily Mail that the conservative network she worked at for three years painted her to be the “angry conservative black woman.”
“There are things that I am sorry for. Things that I did say, that I should not have said them the way I said them,” Dash says. “They were very arrogant and prideful and angry. And that’s who Stacey was, but that’s not who Stacey is now. Stacey’s someone who has compassion, empathy.”
During her tenure at Fox, Dash was suspended for two weeks for saying on air that former President Barack Obama “didn’t give a s–t” about Islamic terrorism. Later, she was also criticized for calling for an end to Black History Month and argued that a network like BET should not exist because it leads to segregation.
During her interview, Dash said that while working for Fox “at that time in my life it was who I was.” She realized later that “anger is not sustainable” and that it would lead to destruction.
“I’m not a victim of anyone,” she said. “Working for Fox at the time, that was my job. I did my job from the place I was at. Stacey now would never work at Fox, would never work for a news network or be a news contributor.”
Reactions on social media were fast and furious, with most people showing no sympathy for the Clueless star.
Some joked that she was just trying to make nice with the Black community again. Based on the responses from Twitter users, it doesn’t look like they’re going to forgive her easily.
