Although Cobra Kai fans haven’t received any news about what the karate series is going to bring to Netflix for its fifth season, there’s still plenty to talk about when it comes to the stars of the popular show, particularly Xolo Maridueña.

According to Variety, Maridueña will take on the lead role in the action series The Ledger for HBO Max. Currently in development, the half-hour series follows a young man named Gabriel (Maridueña) who travels through different towns trying to mend the lives that were ruined by the dangerous man who trained him. Variety describes Gabriel as “an avenging angel” armed only with the ledger that his predecessor left behind.

Playing a leading man is something Maridueña is just getting used to. Along with his main role in Cobra Kai, the 20-year-old actor will make his feature film debut as the title character in the DC Comics movie Blue Beetle directed by Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings). Blue Beetle will mark the first time a DC superhero film will center on a Latine character.

Until then, we’re hoping Maridueña will let us in on a few secrets for the fifth season of Cobra Kai, which wrapped production late last year. When Remezcla interviewed him during the show’s first season in 2018, he was certain the writers had already brainstormed ideas for the future of the series. “There’s no way they haven’t planned for like [as far ahead as] Season 5,” he said.

Nice call, Xolo Maridueña.
