Based on the first trailer for the new original TV series Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion, Disney is looking forward to embracing the Latine culture in a fun and positive way.

The Disney Channel series stars Scarlett Estevez (Lucifer) as Violet Rodriguez, a teenager who becomes a superhero named Ultra Violet when she puts on a magical luchador mask. There to support her is her superhero uncle, Black Scorpion (J.R. Villarreal).

The series was created by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit. Both worked together on the script for 2019’s Pokémon Detective Pikachu and 2021’s The Addams Family 2. They also wrote several episodes of the remake of One Day at a Time.

“Meet Ultra Violet, the Latina superhero [Benji Samit] and I created for the Disney Channel!! Played by the brilliant [Scarlett Estevez],” Hernandez tweeted. “I know you’re going to love her.”

In the trailer, a magical, purple mask shows up in Violet’s bed after she sees it for purchase at a market square. “I know this might seem a little crazy, but…the mask chose me.”

To get the most out of her new role as a crime fighter, she decides she needs to team up (and mask up) with her uncle, who is already a well-established vigilante superhero. He decides to take her under his wing and train her. She keeps her fans updated on her adventures through social media and suggests that her uncle start naming his signature fighting moves something that could go viral, like #ScorpionSting.

Ultra Violet & Black Scorpion premieres on June 3, 2022, on the Disney Channel.
