Actor Eugenio Derbez (CODA) is recovering from surgery following an undisclosed accident he had earlier this week, according to a message his wife posted on social media on Wednesday (August 31).

“To everyone that has been looking out for Eugenio, I want to inform you that, fortunately, after a long and complicated surgery, he is recovering,” Alessandra Rosaldo posted on Instagram. She called the surgery “a success.”

Rosaldo said that it had been a “very long day with many emotions” and thanked everyone for their “countless signs of affection, messages, good wishes, blessings and prayers.” She also thanked the doctors, specialists and nurses at the hospital.

“We’ve felt closer and stronger than ever the love that you all sent us, and we are eternally grateful,” she wrote. “Thank you all for your respect, patience and understanding. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.”

Despierta América TV host Karla Martínez posted well wishes on Instagram. “Bless God!” she wrote. “Hug you both.” Actor Adrian Uribe (La hora pico) posted a set of emojis to show he was thinking about Derbez. Even the official Instagram for the Screen Actors Guild wrote, “We wish you a speedy recovery!” Derbez won a SAG Award earlier this year for his ensemble role in the dramedy CODA where he played a high school choir teacher.

On Tuesday (August 30), Rosaldo released a statement explaining that Derbez had been in an accident and would have to undergo surgery. She added that “the recovery process will be long and difficult…he will have to rest for several weeks and then undergo rehabilitation therapies.”

Next up for Eugenio Derbez is the coming-of-age dramedy Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, which is adapted from author Benjamin Alire Sáenz’s 2012 book of the same name. The film co-stars Eva Longoria (Overboard), Verónica Falcón (Ozark), and Isabella Gomez (One Day at a Time).
