During a recent podcast interview with Armchair Expert published today (April 3), Barbie Ferreira opened up more about her exit from Euphoria after wrapping up the show’s second season.

Last year, there were rumors that Barbie had walked off the show’s set – which she clarified was untrue. “I actually did not walk off set,” she said during the interview. “I did sprain my ankle once and had to go get an X-ray. Maybe that’s what they mean!” However, the initial reports of her disagreeing with the character’s direction weren’t false. She claims it was a “mutual decision” for her to leave the show.

“I don’t think there was a place for [Kat] to go,” Ferreira said. “I think there were places she could have gone. I just don’t think it would have fit into the show.” She also said that she didn’t think it would have done her character justice and that both parties knew that. Ultimately, she didn’t want her character to be the “fat best friend.”

The bottom line: “Sam [the show’s writer] writes for, like, things that he relates to. I don’t think he relates to Kat. I relate to Kat.”

Last August, the Brazilian American actress announced her departure through social media. She wrote: “After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye. I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today.”

Moving forward, Barbie will reportedly be working on a remake of the 1978 cult horror film Faces of Death alongside Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things). The film will be written and directed by Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber.

The third season of Euphoria is reportedly set to start filming later this year.
