WATCH: Becky G Samples La Factoría on Selena Quintanilla-Inspired ‘OTRO CAPÍTULO’

Becky G is back with her second música mexicana album. On Oct. 10, the Mexican-American singer released ENCUENTROS, diving deeper into her feelings. Today (Oct. 11), she dropped her newest music video for the album’s focus single “OTRO CAPÍTULO.”
The new song was inspired by one of Becky’s musical influences, the Tex-Mex icon Selena Quintanilla. Co-written by Becky G, Edgar Barrera, and Elena Rose, “OTRO CAPÍTULO” oozes elements of Tex-Mex, norteño, and cumbia. Perhaps the most interesting element is a sample of Panamanian group La Factoría and Eddy Lover’s “Perdóname.” The new song’s lyrics throws it back to that classic as Becky sings: “Si alguna vez sentiste algo lindo por mí / Es hora que hagamos lo que quieras, baby / Si alguna vez sentiste algo lindo por mí / No perdamos tiempo, aunque yo sé que,” giving a second chance to a past lover.
The new music video, directed by Pietro Biz Biasia, features the singer with her family and community, taking photos and enjoying each other’s company. Other frames show Becky dancing to the catchy cumbia, echoing Quintanilla’s signature moves. The music video also features clips of iconic Los Angeles, CA, spots like the city’s skyline, Randy’s Donuts, and other local restaurants in her hometown, Inglewood.
Fans are thrilled about the new song and visuals. A YouTube user, @elrealBG, wrote: “HERMOSA REINAAAAAAAA THE TRUE REPRESENTATION OF THE QUEEN SELENA QUINTANILLAAAAAAAAAA.” Another YouTube user, @elijahalexander1926, commented: “Well that was a banger, love the family/roots vibe of the video.”
Other social media users are loving the song’s sample. A YouTube user, @flaviocesarvaldesvaldes6099, wrote: “Y si alguna vez sentiste algo lindo por mi ❤❤❤ you honored PERDÓNAME by la factoría 🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦🇵🇦.”
“OTRO CAPÍTULO” is part of Becky’s new album ENCUENTROS. The diverse música mexicana album features artists like Tito Double P, Oscar Maydon, Delilah, and Oscar Ortiz. Featured singles include “COMO DIABLOS” and “MERCEDES” with Maydon.
Moreover, the “MALA SANTA” singer is kicking off her new “Casa Gomez: Otro Capítulo Tour” tonight in Chicago, IL (Oct. 11). The tour will hit cities like Indianapolis, Phoenix, Dallas, Orlando, San Diego, and more.
