Two Mexican singers known for starring in The Lion King musical will reprise their roles in the dubbing of the upcoming spinoff of the Disney movie. Carlos Rivera and Fela Domínguez recorded the Spanish-language voiceovers for the Latin American version of Mufasa: The Lion King.
Rivera and Domínguez helped turn The Lion King musical into a hit in Mexico. In 2015, Domínguez was cast to play Nala in Mexico’s production of the musical. After winning La Academia in 2004, Rivera has cited his stints in The Lion King as being a second wind in his career. In 2011, he started playing Simba in the productions in Spain and Mexico of the musical. Much like Danna and Ceci de la Cueva reprising their roles from the Wicked musical in the movie, Rivera and Domínguez will do the same. Rivera will voice Simba and Domínguez will voice Nala in the Spanish-language dub of Mufasa: The Lion King. Donald Glover and Beyoncé are voicing Simba and Nala, respectively, in the original movie.
Carlos Rivera and Fela Domínguez also recorded the Spanish-language dub for those characters in the 2019 remake of The Lion King. Rivera returning to his famous role as Simba is especially full-circle for him. For his final performance on La Academia before winning the show, he sang “Esta Noche Es Para Amar,” which is the Spanish version of Elton John’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.” The performance proved to be prophetic about the connection that he would share with The Lion King franchise. As part of his “Carlos XX Tour,” he performs a medley of songs from the Disney classic in Spanish, including the “Circle of Life.”
Rivera will kick off the U.S. leg of his “Carlos XX Tour” on Feb. 27, 2025, in El Paso, TX. This morning, Canadian crooner Michael Bublé released a duet version of his song “Maybe This Christmas” featuring the Mexican pop star.

Mufasa: The Lion King opens in theaters in the U.S. on Dec. 20.
