Karol G is getting personal in her upcoming documentary. Last night (April 30), the Colombian superstar hosted a premiere of KAROL G: MAÑANA FUE MUY BONITO [KAROL G: TOMORROW WAS BEAUTIFUL] in Medellín, Colombia. One scene in particular is circulating online where she calls her past relationship with Anuel AA “toxic.”

Karol G teamed up with Netflix to release the documentary MAÑANA FUE MUY BONITO. Last month, she announced that the film by Cristina Costantini will be available to stream next week on May 8th. Some lucky fans got to see the documentary early at the premiere that Karol G hosted in her hometown of Medellín. There, she also gave an impromptu performance of her heartbreak anthem “Amargura.”

One of those fans recorded a scene from the documentary that is spreading online. In the emotional moment, Karol G opens up about a past relationship that was “toxic” and left her feeling like she was in a “nightmare.” Fans assume she was speaking about Puerto Rican singer Anuel AA as their breakup was very public and messy for all involved.

“My past relationship was very toxic, getting out of there, I would wake up and I felt like a person that had no value,” Karol G says in Spanish. “I couldn’t see success. I couldn’t see greatness. I did feel like it was something that I wasn’t going to be able to get out of.”

Karol G first met Anuel AA in 2018 when they filmed the music video for “Culpables.” In January 2019, they went public with their relationship in the “Secreto” video. Anuel AA later revealed in April 2021 that they had called off their engagement and broke up. Much of Karol G healing from that experience inspired her blockbuster album Mañana Será Bonito.

“When what you’re doing is suffering from something and you don’t want to leave, so you don’t suffer and it was a f******* nightmare, it was hell,” she adds. “The only thing that came out of it all was that through my songs, I had the opportunity to speak for many people who sometimes don’t know how to express what they feel.”
