Belinda is going viral thanks to a new jukebox musical. The Spanish-Mexican icon stars in Mentiras, La Serie, where she covers classics from the ‘80s, including her now popular version of an Amanda Miguel song.
Mentiras, La Serie started streaming on Amazon Prime Video last Friday. The show is a TV adaptation of the popular Mexican play Mentiras, El Musical. Belinda plays the role of Daniela Levy de Mijares. Among the many ‘80s classics she covers with her cast, the most popular is “Él Me Mintió,” originally by Amanda Miguel. The version on the show is a mash-up with the song “Mentiras” by Daniela Romo.
“[Amanda] is a great songwriter and singer,” Belinda said on the red carpet of the Mentiras, La Serie premiere. “I admire her so much. Everything that I did was with a lot of respect and love to make a different version of the song.”
“Él Me Mintió, Mentiras, Mentiras” has become a hit from Mentiras, La Serie. This week, the song has taken the No. 1 spot on Spotify’s Viral 50 Global chart. The whole soundtrack for the series is No. 6 on Spotify’s Top Albums Debut Global chart. Other covers from the show gaining traction are the mash-up of “Amiga Mía, Ese Hombre No Se Toca” and the cast’s versions of “Castillos” and “Cuando Baja La Marea.”

As Daniela, Belinda also does a call back to one of the most famous villains in telenovela history. She dons an eye patch like María Rubio’s Catalina Creel from 1986’s Cuna de Lobos. Earlier this month, Belinda released her comeback album Indómita. The song going the most viral from that LP is “Heterocromía,” which her fans assume could be about her ex Gonzalo Hevia Baillères. The album also includes collaborations with Tokischa, Netón Vega, and Thirty Seconds to Mars.
