After winning a Latin Grammy Award, Joaquina is now adding fashion designer to her resume. This morning (July 10), the Venezuelan pop star launched a back-to-school clothing line with JCPenney.
In 2023, Joaquina made history as the youngest person to win Best New Artist at the Latin Grammy Awards at 19. She captured the angst and excitement of her teenage years in her first EP Los Mejores Años. Since then, Joaquina has catalogued her experiences at 21 in her debut album Al Romper La Burbuja. Now she is translating her edgy aesthetic as an artist into a limited edition fashion line with JCPenney. Joaquina collaborated with the department store for her Be Electric collection.
“I poured my younger self into this collection – the girl who mixed Spanish and English like her own secret language and never saw herself in the dressing room mirror,” she shared in a statement. “JCPenney let me tell my story in every stitch. I hope these pieces feel like claiming identity and dressing for the life you dream of.”
The Be Electric collection is inspired by Joaquina’s personal style. Many of the dresses, graphic tees, and zip hoodies harken back to the fashion of the nineties and 2000s. Young women will be ready to return to school in style in low-rise flare jeans, a pleated denim mini skirt, a handkerchief hem dress, a bomber jacket, and many other Y2K-influenced items.

“Every piece is designed to help you show up as you even when the words don’t come easy,” Joaquina added. “This isn’t just a collab. It’s my story in fabric and a reminder that showing up as your truest self is always enough.”
Joaquina’s Be Electric collection is now available in select JCPenny stores and online at jcp.com. On July 19, she will perform in a special concert at the Dadeland Mall in Miami to celebrate the release of her clothing line.
