Where to Eat Out on Thanksgiving

Where to Eat Out on Thanksgiving

Even though Thanksgiving is not traditionally celebrated in Latin America, here at Remezcla we’re big fans of any holidays that revolve around food and days off from work. Most of us will be spending the time off with our family and loved ones, but for those Thanksgiving orphans – or those who are simply not cooking-inclined – we rounded up a list of places where you can get a Día de Acción de Gracias dinner with sabor.

New York

LA CERVECERIA

This Cuban restaurant and lounge will be serving a 3-course prix fixe menu for Thanksgiving, including their signature Cuban lechon asado.

CAFE ESPAÑOL

A staple in Spanish food in Greenwich Village since 1976, this small eatery offers traditional Spanish cuisine and an extensive Tapas menu. For Thanksgiving they are offering a 4 course turkey dinner special for $19.95.

HAVANA CENTRAL AT THE WEST END

2911 Broadway
New York, NY 10025

Modeled after pre-revolution Cuba, this eatery has an old-world vibe, with jazz, swanky decor, and classic dishes. In addition to their regular menu, they will also offer a special Latin Thanksgiving menu including: Latin lasagna, Cuban turkey, chorizo stuffing, and pumpkin flan.

MANCORA

99 1st Avenue
New York, NY 10003

Classic Peruvian dishes are the focus at Mancora, which serves Lima’s famous ceviche and a decent Aji de Gallina – traditional chicken stew drenched in a creamy yellow sauce and garnished with sliced potatoes, hard-boiled egg, and olives. For Thanksgiving, they will serve a 3-course prix fixe menu for $25.

ROSA MEXICANO

New York, NY 10022
Yes, Rosa Mexicano is a chain, and we’re usually suspicious of the whole mass-market generic food thing. But Rosa Mexicano’s corn tortillas made on site, guacamole prepared tableside, and frozen pomegranate margaritas dispensed from a Slurpee machine won us over. The price tag is a bit on the higher side, but no time like the holidays to treat yourself! For Thanksgiving Rosa Mexicano will feature Slow-Roasted Yucatan Turkey and Pumpkin Creme Brulee, among other offerings.

Miami

TORO TORO

InterContinental Miami
100 Chopin Plaza
Miami, FL 33131

Chef Douglas Rodriguez serves ‘Nuevo Latino and Modern Cuban Cuisine ’ at the swanky, trendy De Rodriguez right on Ocean Drive. If you want to start your Thanksgiving night right in the middle of it all, Rodriguez is offering a traditional 3 Course Thanksgiving dinner which will no doubt have nuvo Latino cuisine influences, and includes a glass of Prosecco. Price: $65 for adults and $25 for children.

CASA JUANCHO

Spanish restaurant Casa Juancho has created a Thanksgiving dinner menu that remains mostly traditional, except for some sweet surprises. Thyme-roasted turkey will be served with stuffing, sweet potato crisp, green beans and cranberry. Yeah, the usual. But to top off the feat will be pumpkin flan! Price: $24

ROSA MEXICANO

900 South Miami Avenue #161
Mary Brickell Village
Miami, FL 33130

Rosa Mexicano will be providing a bountiful Thanksgiving feast with a Mexicano twist. The menu is almost entirely hand crafted for this night, including the Yucatan Turkey Soup, Achiote-roasted turkey with plantain gravy and smoke cranberry salsa to the Pumpkin creme brulee with horchata whipped cream. It doesn’t even end there! Obviously, Rosa Mexicano wants to make sure you start your holidays right with specialty cocktails, included El Festivo and Nube De Canela.(They had us at tequila on Thanksgiving.)

Pembroke Pines, FL 33024
(954) 437-8630

“Churrascaria” Texas Brasil is the place to head to if you are a meat-lover. Their special Thanksgiving menu includes roasted turkey breast, sweet potato casserole and a pumpkin cheesecake, as well as their normal menu of grilled specialties.

SUSHISAMBA RIO

Try saying that name three times in a row. River North’s Sushisamba Rio might imply “un menjunje” of cultures, but who’s to say it’s not worth a try? Their special Thanksgiving menu will make you trade in the Pinot Noir for a glass of Sake to go with a braised short rib gyoza, mojo-roasted organic turkey and kabocha cheesecake.

Los Angeles

EL TORITO GRILL

Tortilla Republic’s West Hollywood outpost is planning on spicing things up a little bit by hosting a Thanksgiving EVE fiesta on November 21st, so you can get in your fun before you settle in for a more traditional Thanksgiving dinner the next day. For the fiesta, they will be featuring small plate specials that range from $2-$6.
