Rosalía Is Collaborating With a Mexican Singer for the First Time on ‘LUX’

For the first time in her career, Rosalía is collaborating with a Mexican artist. The Spanish pop star recently revealed the tracklist for her upcoming album LUX, which will feature the lead singer of Yahritza y su Esencia.
Rosalía has collaborated with artists around the world throughout her career, but surprisingly, she hadn’t worked with a Mexican artist yet. That will change with her album LUX, dropping next month. For the LP, Rosalía mostly teamed up with other women, and among them is Mexican-American singer Yahritza Martínez. When the tracklist was first unveiled, her fans were wondering if Yahritza was the singer from Yahritza y su Esencia or a completely different artist. Last night, Martínez celebrated the news on her Instagram account. With a sparkling emoji, in her Instagram stories, she simply wrote: “Bendiciones.” The Yahritza y su Esencia Instagram account also reshared the post.
While Rosalía has revealed the tracklist and her collaborators for LUX, she hasn’t announced which artists are on what songs. It will be interesting to see what route Rosalía takes with hera collaboration with Martínez. Yahritza y su Esencia rose to prominence in 2022 thanks to the viral hit “Soy El Único.” Martínez especially blazed a trail forward for girls and women in corridos, sierreño, and música mexicana in general. Rosalía’s song with Martínez could mark her first ever foray into the world of música mexicana.
Martínez’s upcoming collaboration with Rosalía could also lead to a big comeback for Yahritza y su Esencia. The sibling band still hasn’t quite recovered from a controversy in Mexico from 2023. During a press conference in Mexico City, the Martínez siblings’ comments about preferring food from home in Washington state over traditional Mexican food drew backlash.
Rosalía’s LUX album is coming out Nov. 7. The LP also features Björk, Carminho, Estrella Morente, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, and Yves Tumor.
