One of the most famous telenovela villains was expelled from a reality TV program. Gaby Spanic, who is known for starring in La Usurpadora, was released from the show A Fazenda 17 after slapping a castmate.
Spanic, who was a Venezuelan beauty queen, became a household name in 1998 after starring in La Usurpadora. She played the iconic role of the telenovela’s villain, Paola Bracho Montaner. Last year, Spanic returned to TV when she appeared in the show Secretos de Villanas. She got another big boost in her career recently after appearing in Karol G’s telenovela-inspired Tropicoqueta teaser. Spanic then entered the reality TV realm last month in the Brazilian series A Fazenda 17.
Much like Big Brother or La Casa de Los Famosos, A Fazenda is a series where celebrities are sealed in a farm together over a few months. Spanic was among the cast of 26 celebrities in this seventeenth season of the show. It’s also a bit like The Traitors where there are two secret infiltrators who try to manipulate the results. Spanic was not one of the infiltrators, but she did get caught up in a controversial moment this week.
During the episode on October 19, Spanic was participating in a challenge where she had to pick the person that she considered to be the most passive in the house. She chose to confront model Tàmires Assîs. In a gesture to encourage Assîs to stand up more for herself, Spanic asked her to slap her in the face. When Assîs didn’t want to do that, Spanic suddenly slapped her.
“Why don’t you defend yourself? You’ve already been humiliated enough. Enough is enough!” Spanic said after slapping Assîs.
Following the infamous slap, Spanic was expelled from A Fazenda 17. The show’s director Rodrigo Carelli confirmed that she was released from the show after breaking the rules that prohibit physical violence. Spanic lasted 36 days on the farm before her expulsion.
