After covering Luis Miguel’s classic version of “Bésame Mucho,” Dua Lipa covered another popular track in Mexico City. On Dec. 2, the English-Albanian singer shared the stage with Maná’s Fher Olvera to sing a special duet of the band’s hit song “Oye Mi Amor.” She sang it during her second of three sold-out shows at the Estadio GNP Seguros.
It isn’t the first time Olvera is called to perform one of his biggest hits alongside a global icon. In March 2022, the veteran rockero sang “Rayando El Sol” with Coldplay during the British ensemble’s show in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Now, he’s back to share Mexican rock culture with another international superstar: Dua Lipa. The two stars shared the stage as they sang “Oye Mi Amor,” a pop-rock song originally released in 1992. The two sang the iconic track in pure Maná fashion, trading verses with Dua’s on-point Spanish. The duo shared a hug at the end of the perhaps once-in-a-lifetime live collaboration.
Social media users are praising the surprise cover. “It’s so cool that Dua Lipa chose Oye mi Amor for her second concert,” an X user wrote in Spanish. “It’s the most pop song she could have chosen, a song that everyone knows, featuring Fher from Maná, who is part of national pop culture.”
The final trek of Dua Lipa’s world tour has been a memorable one. During her first night in Mexico City (Dec. 1), she expressed her gratitude to her fans in Spanish. “I’ve been dreaming about tonight since I started my tour, and how it would feel to be back here… These concerts are very exciting for me because they are the last three of my Radical Optimism Tour.”
She continued: “And I feel so, so grateful, I can’t stop thinking about all the incredible memories I’ve made this year. Being here with you tonight is the cherry on top, and it’s the only way I wanted to end this tour. Thank you so, so much, Mexico, for always supporting me and making me feel so at home. I feel a very, very, very deep connection to this country and its beautiful people, and I will always, always come back.”
Dua Lipa’s final Radical Optimism Tour date will be on Friday (Dec. 5) in Mexico City.
