If you watched Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and wished you could have experienced it on a big screen, or if you haven’t watched it yet, then you’re in luck. The film, which has received strong reviews and multiple nominations for various film awards, is now set to return to theaters …for one week. Which means you can still watch it as del Toro intended.
Starting January 16, the movie will be shown in 35mm at the Paris Theater in New York City and the Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles. It will also play in US cities including: Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Washington D.C., Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Orlando, and Springfield, VT. The director is also set to appear at the TLC Chinese IMAX for a screening of the film and live Q&A, though no details about the date have been released.
Frankenstein, Del Toro’s take on Mary Shelley’s gothic classic, stars Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz. It’s been a massive success for Netflix, with the streamer announcing it was the #3 most viewed film in the second half of 2025 with over 98M views.
Del Toro has openly talked about how this project is one he has been wanting to make for 50 years. “Over the decades, the character has fused with my soul in a way that it has become an autobiography. It doesn’t get more personal than this,” the director said in a video message.
The return to theaters for Frankenstein follows a recent exhibit titled Frankenstein: Crafting a Tale Eternal, which was available at the NYA Studios West in Hollywood. The immersive exhibit celebrated del Toro’s storytelling, as well as the craftsmanship of the team behind Frankenstein, with a collection of props, artwork, costumes, and jewelry featured in the film.
