Beyoncé’s show-stopping Met Gala appearance turned heads and left a lasting impression on the hand painted steps of the Gala carpet. Behind her glamorous look is Mexican-Salvadoran makeup artist, Rokael Lizama.

“I am so grateful and blessed to have been able to witness this,” says Lizama in an Instagram post of Beyonce at the Gala. He adds “countless hours of love and hard work put into this (sic) you are forever my inspiration and am grateful for every moment you have allowed me to grow in your space.”

Beyoncé’s Met Gala makeup was a soft glam look with a fierce smoky eye. She appears to have been twinning with her daughter, Blue Ivy, who attended the Gala for the first time.

Celebrity makeup artist, Lizama was born in Durango, Mexico, and immigrated to Los Angeles at the age of four. Lizama’s lifelong love of beauty was evident in his youth, where he recreated makeup and beauty looks with his little sisters.

Despite facing the hurdle of being unable to get a cosmetology license due to his status as an immigrant at the time, he eventually gained residency and applied to beauty school, an endeavor he considers his calling, and “something I would do for the rest of my life.”

Lizama is also the artist behind Lala Anthony’s radiant makeup look. Lozano has previously been involved with Anthony’s Met Gala makeup, including her 2022 makeup look inspired by Aaliyah’s vampire ruler in Queen of the Damned

After years of dolling up celebrities, consumers can now try the look at home with his eponymous makeup line, Rokael Beauty, available at rokaelbeauty.com

Rokael Beauty has everything from lipsticks to lipoils, eyeshadow palettes, and lashes. They also have a YouTube channel where Lizama shows you how to apply your makeup.
