Spain’s star-making reality singing competition is coming to the U.S. This month, Operación Triunfo Estados Unidos will begin the search for the next big pop star from the U.S. and Latin America.

Operación Triunfo launched in Spain in 2001. The show’s first major success was David Bisbal, who was the runner-up on the inaugural season. Since then, the reality singing competition has helped push more recent pop stars like Aitana, Lola Índigo, and Amaia into the international spotlight.

Telemundo is now bringing Operación Triunfo to the U.S. for the first time. Operación Triunfo Estados Unidos will be hosted by Natalia Téllez. The judging panel includes the aforementioned Bisbal, música mexicana star Ana Bárbara, and Mexican icon Ximena Sariñana. Ultimately, the viewers at home will vote for who wins the competition.

The competition includes 20 Latino and Spanish contestants from the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Among the nationalities represented on the cast include people with roots in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Argentina, Nicaragua, and Spain.

The contestants will prepare for the weekly live galas with The Academy, which will be led by “Despacito” co-writer Erika Ender. Viewers can follow what goes on behind-the-scenes of the show and The Academy with a 24/7 live feed on the @OperaciónTriunfoEstadosUnidos YouTube channel.

Operación Triunfo Estados Unidos will premiere on July 7, at 7pm/6c on Telemundo. The winner of the show will receive a $100,000 cash prize and the opportunity to enter the music industry with Universal Music Latino. Operación Triunfo Estados Unidos will also be available to stream live on the Telemundo app.
