Lowriting Book Signing/Reading — Mi Vida Boutique

We’re fans of the sleek photographs Art Meza takes of lowriders and this weekend you can check out this book “Lowriting: Shots, Rides and Stories from the Chicano Soul.” The book features photos and Chicano poetry. During a special reading, Daniel Villareal, Danny de La Paz and others will read from the book. Mix that with DJs spinning 45s and a Lowrider Sidewalk Exhibit and you’ve got quite the event. The shindig starts at 6 p.m. on February 22. In the meantime, check out Art Meza’s awesome Instagram account.

En La Noche Grande — MOLAA

There’s nothing quite like unwinding at the end of the week with a night out on the town. Mix things up by heading to the Museum of Latin American Art for a unique evening. Don’t think museums can party? We figure a cigar lounge, free spirits tasting, food trucks and Cuban salsa music might convince you. The event will take place Friday, February 21st from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and is only $9 for non-museum members. Time to put on those salsa shoes.

Reflejos y Regalos de East Los: A Photobooth and Site Specific Art Project — Hollenbeck Park

Photo booths usually require money and only pop out two little strips to take home as a souvenir. But the photo booth that photographer Rafael Cardenas set up did much more than that. In a project created with Self Help Graphics, the artist used these photo booths to create photo murals of locals in the communities where they popped up. The artist created three murals and one of them will be unveiled this Friday, February 21st. Head to Hollenbeck Park from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to check out the unique, community-centered artwork.
