Kotolan 45 Vinyl Record Release Event — Arts District Flea Market
There are two things that go extremely well with art: live music and booze. To experience this glorious trifecta, you might want to swing by the Arts District Flea Market this weekend. Head to the space to check out groovy tunes by Kotolan, a band that makes music with a mod and soul twist. Oh, and the band includes a keytar. On Saturday July, 26 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. you can help the band celebrate the release of its new 45 record. While you sip on a cocktail, you can also check out art from Modern Multiples which will feature Richard Duardo and Michael Hope. The event is free and all ages.

Marcela Armas — MOLAA
The work of Marcela Armas deals with everything from meaning-making to social relations to urban structures. But these themes all relate to issues that many people understand either on a firsthand basis or from living in a certain place. Take for instance her intriguing piece “Resistencia,” which explores the heated debates and tense relationships related to the Mexico/U.S. border. In fact, Armas uses a filament that causes the installation to create a heating resistance. It’s a direct and captivating way to creatively a tension that is very real to many Latinos. Starting July 26, you can see this piece and others by Armas in MOLAA’s project room. Her work will stay on display until January 18, 2015.
