This year, Bikini Bottom’s most famous resident has made a splash on the fashion world. And now SpongeBob SquarePants has appeared  in the middle of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The fry cook was the focal point of Malafacha’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection, but unlike the other more straightforward high-fashion reiterations of Bob Esponja, the brand combined the beloved cartoon character with pre-Columbian and Mexican imagery.

For weeks, Malafacha posted images to tease the collection and show its followers where it was drawing inspiration from, including los tiliches de Putla and coastal festivals. Guerrero, in particular, played a big role in the collection’s look. On November 12, the brand delivered a bright, colorful collection that featured SpongeBob’s mug in the Aztec calendar and Patrick as a papel picado figure. Check out a few images below:

Nickelodeon and Viacom teamed up with a host of designers for the SpongeBob SquarePants Gold collection. Malafacha’s collection is part of that partnership.
