On night two of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, Former First Lady Michelle Obama was center stage along with her husband, Barack Obama, to deliver a speech for the democratic convention.

The Obama’s speeches were not the only talking point of the night. Michelle also captivated viewers by arriving in a navy, criss-cross tuxedo jacket and pants that gave an edgy twist to the classic pantsuit.

The sleeveless ensemble was designed by luxury fashion house, Monse, founded by Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia in 2015. Garcia grew up traveling between the Dominican Republic and Spain. He had a passion for drawing and architecture, which would eventually lead him back stage with Dominican Designer, Oscar De La Renta.

De la Renta encouraged his creativity, eventually leading Garcia to becoming the Principal Designer for De la Renta and catapulting his career in fashion.

On Instagram, Monse wrote: “Michele Obama embodies the MONSE woman in every way, exuding the strength and confidence that are at the core of our brand.”

The Monse ensemble that Michelle wore comes from Monse’s Resort 2025 collection, which is now available for pre-order. The sleeveless suit features torso-hugging lapels and a thin belt with silver details. The criss-cross lapel and highly tailored-suit is a signature look for Monse, which also features the design in different colorways and textiles for their Fall/Winter 2025 collection

Viewers on social media were taking note of Michelle’s demure look, which was accessorized with black pumps, silver jewelry, and a long braid.
