It’s the time of year to celebrate that woman who carried you for 9 months, has probably cooked more meals for you than any other and likely loves you more than, well, anyone else could, etc…. When it comes down to it, you want to make her feel like a winner, even if you’re ballin’ on a budget.

We’ve sat down and made some executive decisions for you on where to take your mom for Mother’s Day so you don’t have to (we’ve even included gifts and festivities). Also, we limited the affair to $50 –generous considering the size of those student loan payments.

Assuming your mom is ok with pan-americanism, our brunch recommendations come from all over the place. If your mom is Mexican and only wants to go for Mexican…this may not work…though I truly doubt any mom would be disappointed with their hijo/hija taking them out on the town for their special day, even if it happened to be for Italian (no, we haven’t included any Italian). Below we’ve got Mother’s Day brunch recommendations for all 5 cities. And all for under $50. This is Mother’s Day 2012 on a budget.

Uptown

Overlook the beautiful Cloisters Park as you brunch with your mama at New Leaf Cafe–the Tavern on the Green of the Cloisters except much less crowded (and open). Brunch will cost you $19.95 and includes coffee & juice.

Brooklyn

Cafecito Bogota in Greenpoint has a killer brunch special for Mother’s Day (and, well, every weekend). Brunch will cost you a manageable $16.50 and includes either 3 cocktails (you chose between sangria, mimosa, refajo) or a juice and bottomless coffee or tea.

Queens

Celebrate Mother’s Day at Astoria’s El Basurero. The spot has everything ready, from the best food, to drinks, to live music. This Colombian restaurant is sure to be a party on Mother’s Day.

Downtown

The Caracas Arepa Bar is a good choice if you’re planning to head into downtown Manhattan to spoil your mama on Mother’s Day. We hear they may have a special menu, but they’ll also have their classic brunch items and delicious arepas.

Bucktown

Estrella Negra is a great place to head for a Mother’s Day Brunch -all brunch items are under $10. Also, this place is delicious -huevos rancheros anyone?

River North

Cafe Iberico specializes in spanish cuisine aka tapas and yummy salads. Perfect if “YO MAMA SO FAT” also perfect if you’re into that whole “sharing” thing. Each order of tapas runs around $10 and the beer is cheap too!

River North

If your mom is an adventurous eater she will love this joint. Sushi Samba blends latin and japanese food together to bring you dishes like sashimi seviche and prawn ishimoto… whatever that means. The best part is that this mothers day they are having a mothers day special and will provide live bossa nova from 12 to 3pm.

Old Town

Salpicón has good ol’ hard mexican dishes (filling and delicious, probably tender) and provide a great brunch menu with all the bubbly your mom will need to feel young again.

South Miami

Any place that can take reservations will probably be good for mothers day, only problem is that YOU will have to make them and not your mom as usual. The prices are great for the setting and ambiance that will surely make tu madre feel good. Breakfast is from 7 – 11:30 with all items under $10 .

Brickell

Novecento calls itself a mix between New York and Argentina but in Miami, expect poshness all up on this joint. Unlike its cold black looks the prices for brunch are totally manageable with all single dishes for brunch $16 and under and a great group meal deal $62 that includes too much meat.

Southeast Gables

Mamajuana has a great brunch menu with all dishes under $16 and on sundays they do a brunch buffet until 4pm which will run you about $25 a person. ALL YOU CAN EAT!

Studio City

Yummy mexican food and a full stocked cantina, what more do you need on a sunday morning. The menu items under $10 and the list of margaritas is very very long. So here is the plan: get drunk with mom, take her home, go out with friends, wait.. its sunday!

Brea

This restaurant has two bald men all over their website BUT its well known for authentic mexican and some seriously good desserts. Also they offer great gift baskets which are perfect for mothers day.

North Hollywood

Another $22 mothers day deal right here! This gets you an appetizer/entrée/dessert and there is going to be live music starting at 5pm.

Presidio

You will definitely hit the $50 mark with this one, the brunch menu is extensive and varied. The food here is new american with french flare and the location is a beautiful park! Perfect for a tipsy walk in the park after your meal.

Haight-Ashbury

Puerto Rican cuisine in a comfortable setting and all brunch items under $10! Simple and to the point.

Mission

This one is to keep the jefa al relaxed and shiz. At La Palma you can go grocery shopping, taco eating or masa buying to make tortillas at home. Not a sit down place (its a tiny mercado) but its convenient if you want to party en tu casa. They have “Paquete lo lleves” to-go packages which include tons of food for under $50.

Mission

This one is to keep the jefa out all night. Andalu is a Tapas bar and restaurant with a chill atmosphere and late night menus for fridays and saturdays. Tapas are small and cheap and wont go past 13 each. Reservations are convenient since weekends get crowded.
