For Emmanuel Valtierra, mixing Aztec-style art and pop culture made a lot of sense. “Many people outside Mexico didn’t even know it existed,” he tells Remezcla. “I wanted to introduce art little by little to a new public, and there was no better way than to do it with images they will recognize easily, like video games, movies, and cartoons.”

In the last week, Valtierra has revealed two very timely pieces of art: one showing the Avengers taking on big bad Thanos and another showing Daenerys Targaryen and her army facing Game of Thrones‘ resident almond-shape nail lover, the Night King.

The San Antonio-based artist, who has worked on this kind of art for about five or six years, has a lot of super hero art, but he’s worked beyond that as well. “I have illustrations with almost all my favorite super heroes, Marvel and DC,” he says. “Famous paintings [too], like the Starry Night and The Last Supper have been created with art, too. I [even] went [as far as transferring] music album covers to my art style.”
