Barbie is celebrating Mexican heritage with a new set of dolls inspired by Día de Muertos.
Día de Muertos is a Mexican holiday that typically takes place from Nov. 1 to Nov. 2. During these days, families create ofrendas, or altars, to honor and remember loved ones that have passed away. The holiday was highlighted in the 2017 Disney film Coco and is consistently covered on TV, most recently in Wednesday Season 2 and My Life with the Walter Boys Season 2.
Barbie is no stranger to partaking in Día de Muertos festivities. Last year, Mexican designer Kris Goyri collaborated with Mattel on a Barbie that was styled and painted in the spirit of the holiday. Barbie has now released a new collection of Día de Muertos dolls.
This year’s Día de Muertos collection was designed by Ari Sarinana. Barbie is wearing a multi-tiered gown with a cempasúchil flower motif and matching headpiece. Her face is also painted with the calavera, or skull, makeup that’s typical of the holiday.

The collection also includes a Ken doll in the spirit of Día de Muertos. Ken is dressed in a traditional Mexican charro suit with gold accents and a sombrero. His shirt is embroidered with cempasúchil details. His face is also painted with a calavera design.
Both Barbie and Ken Día de Muertos dolls come in their own custom boxes with cempasúchil details.

The Día de Muertos Barbie and Ken are currently on sale under the Mattel Creations Signature Dolls for $81.00 each.
